Affordable Liposuction Through Medical Tourism
By pepperlynn76
There are a lot of factors that affect the cost of liposuction. The price range would be from $1,500 to $7,500, depending on the method of liposuction procedure, the surgeon, the location and the equipment to be used, the area of the body, whether it be the tumescent procedure (which is commonly used), the laser assisted liposuction or the newly developed water-jet assisted liposuction. In some states, like Texas and Florida, the laser assisted technique is a more affordable liposuction method. The water-jet assisted liposuction isn’t far behind, though, as far as the pricing is concerned.
The following is a breakdown of the price ranges of each area of the body:
- Upper and Lower Abdomen: $3,000 - $7,500
- Arms: $1,500 - $5,000
- Back: $1,500 - $4,000
- Breasts: $3,000 - $7,500
- Buttocks: $1,500 - $4,500
- Chin, Cheeks, Jowls, Neck: $2,000 - $4,500
- Flanks: $2,000 - $5,000
- Anterior Thighs and Knees: $2,000 - $5,000
- Inner Thighs and Knees: $2,000 - $5,000
- Hips/Waist: $1,600 - $5,000
- Outer Thighs: $1,600 - $5,000
According to American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the average cost of liposuction for one area of the body is $3,500. So if you are looking to have a more affordable liposuction, you may want to consult your surgeon about an in house financing. Usually surgeons are tied up with local financing companies.
Liposuction procedure is considered elective and cosmetic, so it is not usually covered by your health insurance. However, it may be covered, provided that the procedure is due to therapeutic reasons. One example is breast reduction via liposuction, wherein the procedure eases back or shoulder pain. Another is liposuction for patients with lymphedema. This condition is also known as an obstruction of the lymphatic system, a condition of localized fluid retention and tissue swelling. Health coverage pays 75 to 80 percent of the total bill and the patient will shoulder the remaining balance.
Other than in house financing, some opt to go to other countries for an affordable liposuction procedure. This is known as medical tourism. Medical tourism is traveling to another country to receive medical services. The usual services being provided are elective surgery, plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery which includes liposuction, although recently medical tourism also provides life saving procedures like heart surgery, hip replacement, fertility work up and cancer treatments. Below are some of the countries that provide affordable liposuction procedure with reputable surgeons and equipment:

I really appreciate your contribution in hubpages about looking beyond the borders of the U.S. for affordable options. You give very specific examples of possible cost savings for this procedure in other countries. It’s terrific that you compare the typical costs in the U.S. to savings that can be expected for specific liposuction procedures elsewhere. Thanks for your expertise.
