Clearly Lasik is an eye surgery center that provides laser vision correction for people who wish to reduce or stop having to wear eye glasses and contact lenses. Its centers are found in 7 locations:

  •  Renton, Washington, USA
  •  Kennewick, Washington, USA
  •  Vancouver, Washington, USA
  •  Medford, Oregon, USA
  •  Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
  •  Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
  •  Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

Who are the surgeons in Clearly Lasik?

Only three surgeons are featured in the Clearly Lasik website, although there appears to be more surgeons practicing in their 7 centers. All three surgeons: Dr. Joseph King, Dr. Michael Mockovak, and Dr. Colin Nelson, are certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. However, only Dr. Colin Nelson is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

What are the steps in Lasik treatment?

Lasik treatment is done on the cornea, the front part of the eye that does most of the focusing. There are 4 parts to the Lasik treatment:
1. Identification if the patient is eligible for Lasik treatment
2. Creation of the Lasik flap
3. Cornea reshaping
4. Closing of the Lasik flap

What systems are used by Clearly Lasik?

Clearly Lasik uses the following Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved systems to surgically correct vision:
• Zyoptix® Diagnostic System by Bausch & Lomb
• CustomVue™ Vision Correction System.

Zyoptix® Diagnostic System creates a three-dimensional map of the cornea using Wavefront Treatment to identify if the patient can undergo Lasik treatment and to create a surgical plan. Wavefront Treatment identifies how the eye filters and reflects light. A computer then determines how the cornea should be reshaped to improve vision. This means that the reshaping of the eye is no longer subjective and improves accuracy of the treatment.

CustomVue™ Vision Correction System is a combination of two technologies: the Wavefront Diagnostic System and the VISX® STAR S4 Laser System. It is very similar to Zyoptix® Diagnostic System except it has an additional feature: the Iris Registration. This system improves the Wavefront-guided treatment results by adjusting for any changes in the eye created by lying down during the treatment, when the initial corneal mapping was done in the upright position. CustomVue™ Vision Correction System also removes less corneal tissue. This allows Lasik treatment to be available to those who were in the past not eligible for Lasik treatment due to thin corneas.

Finally, before deciding to undergo Lasik, one should always do some research first. Check with the American Academy of Ophthalmology if the surgeon is certified, and the FDA to see if the equipment that is going to be used is safe. One should also know all the possible results of the surgery before making this life changing decision.
