Eating healthy to lose weight doesn't have to be a daunting task. Nor does it have to be the end all to eating foods rich in flavor. In fact, there are many savory healthy meal alternatives that are packed with flavor that will surprise your taste buds.

The first place to start when changing to a lifestyle of healthy eating is to revamp your pantry. Walk over to your panty and grab a bunch of bags and just start tossing snack foods that are high in fat, calories and sodium into a bag and go donate it the food to a local food bank.

Then the next thing is to decide what sort of healthy eating plan do you want to follow. Do you want to follow a low fat, low calorie, low carb or vegetarian diet. There are just tons of healthy plans to follow. You can explore more ideas on the web, follow an eating plan from a book such as the jillian diet. Whatever you choose, just choose something that is healthy for you and your family. None of that fad stuff like a liquid diet only.

To decide on a diet plan ask yourself these questions:

Can I eat like this 6 months from now, a year, 20 years?

Is this diet depriving me of foods that I will later break down and binge on if denied?

Is this a diet I can proudly discuss with my doctor?

If you answered no to any of those questions, then you need to choose a different eating plan.

Once deciding on an eating plan you are ready for the next step which is to plan out your meals. Yes, you will need to plan them out. Without a plan you will fail when meal time rolls around and you find yourself famished so you end up running to the refrigerator and manage to shove down 4 slices of cheese while trying to cook your dinner. That was just 400 extra calories by the way! What I recommend doing is sitting down and going through a healthy cook book. My current favorite book right now is the "Biggest Loser Family Cookbook: Budget-Friendly Meals Your Whole Family Will Love". That book is jam packed with tasty and nutritious meals that satisfy me. Place a post it on recipes you want to try. Don't just mark dinners but also a few breakfast, lunch and snack ideas.

Write down the items you will need in order to make those meals for the week. Then go ahead and start adding fruits and veggies for snacks. Writing everything down will also help you form buying things you don't need while at the store. Now you're ready to start eating healthy to lose weight!
