Skin Chafing

Skin chaffing can be a real nusance for athletes and for non-athletes as well. There may not be initial pain when chaffing first begins but after a few hours the skin can really get inflammed and become quite painful. In some cases the irritation turns into an infection.

Skin chafing occurs primarily with athletes. Usually the constant friction in the crotch area from running shorts can cause chafing for runners and walkers that walk long distances.

Life guards deal with chafing since it is common to be in and out of a wet bathing suit all day. Wet clothing touching the skin and movement is just begging for a skin iritation.

Overweight and very overweight individuals deal with skin chafing from skin to skin contact which occurs from the fat folds on the body. When an overweight or obese person begins to workout, even if they have never had chafing issues to begin with, they may start to encounter some chafing for the first time as a direct cause from their body movements in conjuntion with workout clothing and sweat.

Another very common skin chafing problem that anybody can get matter what the activity or body size are blisters from shoes. Foot blisters occur because of the constant friction from the movement of your feet contacting your sock and then your shoe.

A great preventative for skin chafing is to use a product like Bodyglide Anti-Chafing Stick. It looks similar to a deoderant stick, you just apply the product to areas of the body where you feel your skin might be vulnerable for skin chafing. This product can also be applied to your feet. In fact, it is always a  good idea to apply BodyGlide to the soles of your feet and the back of heel just a preventative because a blister can occur at anytime, even if you have performed the exercise previously in the same pair of shoes. I once broke out with a blister from a newer pair of running shoes while hiking even though I had been wearing them to run in two 2weeks prior to my hiking trip.

Should expereince some skin chafing you can heal the area faster by keeping the area clean and apply a product such as neosporin on it daily. Also allow the skin to breathe and try not to let the area have any clothing touch it until it heals, unless it is on your foot.

If it is on your foot then you should apply band aids on the blister and continue to apply the BodyGlid on your feet to prevent another break out.
