Who Really Needs Tummy Tuck Liposuction?

By

Before the advent of liposuction, there was only Abdominoplasty. The term sounds fancy but it is often known by a much simpler name: Tummy Tuck Liposuction. Technically, it’s not a liposuction procedure in the normal sense, in that it doesn’t end with just the surgical removal of unwanted fats in the abdominal area.

Tummy tuck liposuction is actually a two-step process: first, the fat is removed from the abdominal area via the traditional liposuction procedure; and second, excess skin from the lower abdomen is removed and the remaining skin is stretched for a smoother final result.

Recent changes in liposuction procedures have rendered tummy tuck liposuction almost unnecessary, as doctors now recommend that patients allow the skin’s natural elasticity to tighten the abdomen after the liposuction procedure. As such, it’s no longer necessary to cut out excess skin and then sew it up again, leaving a much more visible scar in the process.

So when is it necessary to get a tummy tuck?

There are several reasons why a person would require tummy tuck, but before anything else, it’s important to remember that this is still a major operation. Proper care and consideration should be taken before a decision is made, so consult a specialist first.

If you do find yourself in the following situations, you might need a tummy tuck:

  1. Excess skin hangs in your abdominal area after significant weight loss. This refers to a serious amount of loose skin, not just a bit of un-taut stomach.
  2. Stretch marks after pregnancy and lack of elasticity. When the natural elasticity of the skin no longer “works” post-partum, it might be time to consider a tummy tuck.
  3. Your abdomen is obviously disproportionate to the rest of your body, and no amount of exercise seems to minimize this large bulge.

It is most important to remember, though, that this surgical procedure isn’t a walk in the park and you want to make sure that you make the most out of it. If your weight loss is the reason why you’re getting a tummy tuck, make sure that you can actually maintain your weight so you don’t waste the effects of the surgery. Also, if you’re planning on getting pregnant again, you might want to hold off your tummy tuck plans until after you’re done with the kids. It’s not a simple procedure, so don’t take it lightly and make sure that you can actually maintain the pretty effects that a tummy tuck offers.
