There are many workout gear brands to choose from.  But there are a couple of guidelines that you should stick with when purchasing new workout clothing.

Womens workout gear should be very comfortable.  They should never feel too tight or constrictive.

The materials should be very high quality, extremely flexible while allowing perfect mobility and they should allow your skin to breathe.

Along the lines of the materials being breathable, this is most important if you are involved in very high intensity workouts in which you are guaranteed to sweat a lot.  The material that you will want your clothing to be designed with should be breathable and should be made of the material called CoolMax or another like wicking-material.  These materials will aid in evaporation of sweat, help cool your body and can repulse the sweat away from your skin.

It's good idea to choose workout clothes that are designed specifically for the type of exercise activities that you will participate in. For example if you're planning on bike riding or spinning, then you will not want to be wearing yoga pants or any type of long pants which can get caught into the bike chain. Likewise it is not advisable to wear running shorts for this type of activity as well because running shorts are too short in length and will cause chafing at your inner thigh may rub a portion of your bike seat. So in this example you would need mid-length shorts or more specifically "biking shorts".

Some athletic wear may contain fleece which is a light weight material that is meant to insulate without being bulky. This material is ideal for the winter months in colder climates.

As far as materials go is very common to have a workout gear that is made from nylon, acrylic or polypropylene. These materials allow for functionality, mobility and comfort.
